the experience of joy, contentment, or positive well-being, combined with a sense that one's life is good, meaningful, and worthwhile (Lyubomirsky, 2007)
Survey 10 people about their definition of what happiness is and you'd get at least 20 different answers. Ask someone what makes them happy and you'd be surprised by the spectrum of answers that you'll get from just one person. Have someone answer "What makes you happy?" and s/he may give you an entirely different answer years, months or even days from the moment you asked him/her first. These instances alone make me happy - to know that despite the many horrible and sad realities that are happening, we still, and always will, find something to be happy about.
Some years ago, if someone has asked me the same question, s/he would know that my happiness was entirely dependent on another human being. I was happy because somebody else was happy being with me. I was happy because somebody else was happy for me. I was happy because I get to spend happy, blissful moments with somebody else. You get the pattern. So much was my (unhealthy) dependence on them, that when they left me, they took with them my happiness. They took with them the usual happiness I feel when visiting a certain place. They took with them the usual joy I feel when eating a certain food. They took with them the usual delight of checking Facebook/Twitter/Instagram, or even the usual excitement in checking for notifications in my cellphone. To make things short (and brunt), I practically gave them every chance for me to be happy that when they left, they also took away every chance for me to be happy again. Fortunately, after months of mustering enough strength and will to change for the better, this has now become a distant memory of how I used to define happiness.
Books have helped me change the way I see happiness :)
Ironically but truthfully, to change the way I see happiness, I had to experience sadness and loneliness. It was during these moments of solitude that I experienced the absence of happiness. And from the absence of happiness (or rather, from the absence of what I perceived to be my only sources of happiness), I was able to value what happiness is and to discover new sources of happiness. While I still enjoy and yearn for some company to experience happiness, I can also still feel genuine happiness even in the comforts of complete solitariness. Reading good books under the shade of a tree lets me experience contentment and joy. So much so was my happiness with books that I don't mind, and even look forward to having blind dates with books! ♥
In the same way that this photo (and the story behind this photo) has helped me to change the way I see happiness, Huawei P9 has also helped me change the way I see mobile photography. Ilocos is captured in drone and it's breathtaking!
A Philippine region that fuses the beauty of nature and our history together, Ilocos is given a fresh and exciting perspective by awesome videographer Christer Isulat. With his drone and hand-held camera, he went to shoot the key destinations in Vigan, Laoag, and Pagudpud.
The preserved architecture of Calle Crisologo, Bantay Tower, Quirino Bridge, and the dancing lights fountain are some of the spectacles documented for Vigan. The sand dunes in Laoag lets you have an exciting time aboard a monster 4x4 and unlimited sandboarding time. Laoag is also the home of Malacanang of the North as well as Paoay Church. Pagudpud is famous for its windmills, Patapat Viaduct, Dos Hermanos Islands, Saud Beach, Blue Lagoon, Burgos Lighthouse, and Bantay Abot Cave.
These destinations are an easy visit with the three main provinces easily accessible from one another.
This video was in collaboration with Biyaheroes and Partas Transport Company with hopes of encouraging tourists to visit these commute-friendly destinations and to take public transport when visiting. Instead of a very long drive, Biyaheroes lets commuters book and even choose their bus seats online, saving everyone from the hassle and the stress of planning their trips. They are in partnership with Partas that offers direct and roundtrip Manila to Vigan, Laoag, and Pagudpud buses with terminals in Pasay, Sampaloc, and Cubao.
With the blazing heat of the sun and the longing to see provinces that offer everything from history, adventure, and food trips, why not escape and book your Ilocos bus tickets now?
In a September 2015 article written by J. Callaham of AndroidCentral, multinational technology company Google has announced that there are now currently 1.4 billion active Android devices worldwide. Likewise, in a similar article from CNET, IDC Worldwide Quarterly Mobile Phone Tracker has released a report saying that Android has now hit more than 80% of the market share for smartphone shipments worldwide. In simpler terms, one can derive from these statistical reports that Android phones can now be considered as "kings" in the long-fought battle for the best smartphone. This is certainly good news for old Android phone users but what about smartphone users who wish to switch to Android or users who wish to buy another Android phone? With several smartphone manufacturers that run Android on their devices, looking for the "King of Android" among the kings of smartphones could be a very challenging task.
Fret not though because I am exactly the person you need if coming face to face with a King is among those listed on your bucket list! Dear reader, I present to you, the King of Android: Huawei Nexus 6P! Living with the king definitely has its many perks and advantages but since I know that meeting with a King can be a very intimidating and lost-for-words-type-of-awestruck experience, I have conveniently listed down the top five perks of what it is like to live with the king!
P.S. If you'd like to spread the word about how it is to live with the king, just remember these five letters: N E X U S!
Nfor a Nightlife-loving camera
Efor an Exquisite design
Xfor an Xtra long battery life
Ufor a Unique Google experience
Sfor a Simplified security
The intense, scorching and sweltering summer heat that we Filipinos are currently experiencing has turned most of us into creatures of the night --- coming out only for the night's promise of protection from the sun's blistering heat. While this strategy has helped us in avoiding (or rather, lessening) our exposure to the inevitable summer's heat, this strategy has also made it hard for us to clearly capture moments of our summer adventures. But since you're living with the King of Android, this won't be a problem at all! The Huawei Nexus 6P camera lets you capture vibrant images even in conditions with less than ideal lighting. It also boasts of its 1.55μm pixels which allows the Nexus 6P to collect more light photons which then helps improve the image quality. It also has pre-installed apps like the Google Camera™ and Google Photos™ to make sure that you'll never miss any moment of your adventures (whether summer or all-year round) and to make your memories easy to find.
Shot taken in full auto (Google camera chooses where to focus and no settings are changed)
Sunrise shot showing Nexus 6P's superior HDR capabilities
The Huawei Nexus 6P wouldn't be called the King of Android for no justifiable reason. One look at this phone and you'll instantly hear yourself say "no wonder this is called as such". Diamond chamfers (yes, diamond lang naman, maliit na bagay for a King) encircle the Nexus 6P's iconic hardware design which is sculpted to accent its low-light-loving, powerful camera. You know how a king must always have an entourage of trained and skilled security personnel? Well the King of Android is definitely not an exception to this. The Nexus 6P has a curved metal shell that is crafted from aeronautical-grade anodized aluminum. The underlined part simply means that the metal shell has undergone the process of anodizing which accounts for its increased resistance to corrosion and wear and a better adhesion for color primers than bare metal (this means that your Nexus 6P's color won't fade away that easily). I sounded so techy back there, huh? Definitely loving the perks of living with the King (like making you look more sophisticated and more knowledgeable)!
The Huawei Nexus 6P's screen is also protected by a panel of Corning Gorilla Glass 4, an environment-friendly alkali-aluminosilicate thin sheet glass designed specifically to function as a protective cover glass, making your phone's screen resistant to cracks and scratches. The King of Android smartphone is also available in regal-sounding colors: aluminum, graphite, frost, and gold (available only in Japan, US and India).
"With great power comes great responsibility", so says the late uncle of one of my most loved Marvel superheroes. The same adage holds true not only for fictional superheroes but for real heroes as well, including our very own King of Android. With its many "responsibilities" as the title holder of "King of Android", including its promised features and responsibilities to its constituents (its users), it is only expected of the Nexus 6P to be able to have great battery power to be able to perform its functions well.
With reference to GSMArena's Battery Test for the Huawei Nexus 6P, one can say that this phone is really built on a solid and reliable foundation of power. Thanks to its pure and smart Android 6.0 Marshmallow's new Doze feature, it allows the Nexus 6P to use data from the device's motion chip to detect when the phone has been lying on a table for a while without being used. In such cases, the Android's Doze feature will automatically reduce e-mail polling and social media notifications, which are two potential battery hogs.
Even with its sharp 5.7" WQHD AMOLED display which gives a stunning clarity with 518 pixels per inch, and a superior front-facing speaker that offers crisp sound, you would still be assured that you will be able to do more with this phone. Nexus 6P's hardware also comes with the latest version of the octa-core Qualcomm® Snapdragon™ 810 v2.1 processor, making the performance of Nexus 6P faster than ever. And have I told you about its long-lasting 3450mAh battery? It definitely lets you go the distance with added support from a reversible USB Type-C™ for fast charging.
Thanks to Nexus 6P's fast-charging USB Type-C™ adapter, the King of Android can get a full charge from under 15 to 100 in a little over an hour. Also, the battery saver feature built into this Android phone can definitely help squeeze every last bit of juice. If you're asking what's so special about its reversible USB Type-C™ adapter, well for one, it is reversible. With this type of adapter, you would now say goodbye to your worries and frustrations whenever you try to connect your charger to your phone (the struggles of which are brilliantly shown in the 9gag memes I've compiled below).
"The best of Google, in the palm of your hand." You know how a King's mere words means exactly the same thing as its corresponding action? He doesn't even have to go by the very widely-spoken "action speaks louder than words" because a King's simple utterance of words is as good as any action. With the King of Android, you will feel just like a King, because you simply have to utter the magic words, "Ok Google", to get things done! From searching anything under (or beyond) the sun, to getting directions and creating reminders, you bet that with only your voice, Google will be up and about running to do your commands!
Aside from this feature, Nexus 6P lets you enjoy the best of Google with its pre-installed apps, including Google Maps™, Chrome™, Google Play™, Youtube™, Photos, GMail™ and more. Nexus 6P also has a wifi combo antenna that offers a fast and strong connection, letting you work and play with no interruptions.
The King of Android is equipped with the latest and most sophisticated measure of security that is truly fit for a King. It has the Nexus Imprint: with a single touch, you are ensured with high-end security details minus the complexities. Your Nexus 6P is quicker and more secure with its one-touch fingerprint sensor. Placed on the back of your device to complement the way you naturally hold it, Nexus Imprint will turn on your screen with just a single touch, unlocking your apps quickly and easily, and letting you breeze through checkout lines with Android Pay. And, by incorporating measurements each time you use it, Nexus Imprint gets smarter with every touch!
Nexus Imprint is Google's own fingerprint authentication feature, and the Nexus 6P is among the two smartphones where this security feature is first made available. Using your fingerprint, Nexus Imprint allows you to authenticate on your device to unlock it, use Android Pay, and even make Google Play purchases. Fingerprints are recognized in less than 600 milliseconds. Also, the hardware used for Nexus Imprint stays separated from the rest of the device, keeping it more secure and better protected from any threats of hacks or malware. The sensor can also be used as verification for third-party banking and commerce apps as they add support.

Aquabest, the country's premier water station franchise, is reaching out to its local community by opening a soup kitchen for indigent people.
Every Friday afternoon, the company operates a soup kitchen dispensing hot meals to the poor at its head office along Quezon Avenue. Since it started operating this February, the soup kitchen regularly serves dozens of underprivileged people.
The soup kitchen is part of the company's efforts to give back to society and is a reflection of the Christian values that underpin the company's operations. "As a company we have to strive to make a positive influence in our community. And our efforts here however small can help our underprivileged brethren that other people still care about them", says Carson Tan, the company's President and CEO.
AQUABEST RENEWS PARTNERSHIP WITH BPI FAMILY KA-NEGOSYO
Aquabest has renewed its partnership with BPI Family Savings Bank as an accredited franchisor for its BPI Family Ka-Negosyo Franchising Loan.
The company was among the pioneer batch of accredited franchisors and has been recognized as a Best List brand by the bank. The company's prospective franchisees can enjoy favorable and flexible financing terms from BPI Family Savings Bank.
"Our renewed partnership with BPI Family Ka-Negosyo is a testament to our company's hard work to building a strong brand and business that has helped our franchisees succeed as entrepreneurs. At the same time, it continues to make it easier for aspiring entrepreneurs to set up their dream business" says Carson Tan, Aquabest's President and CEO.
For a franchise to be included in the Best List means it is an established, profitable and franchisee-friendly brand. Most of the companies in the list are profitable, having a return on investment (ROI) of less than three years. Aspiring entrepreneurs taking out a BPI Family Ka- Negosyo Franchising Loan on Aquabest can enjoy incentives such as no collateral loan, shorter processing time and no processing fee.
Here is an updated step-by-step guideline for those applying for the LET board exams at the Professional Regulation Commission.
I. ONLINE APPLICATION
BEFORE you go to the PRC office for application, make sure that you've accomplished the online application first (visit http://www.prc.gov.ph/online/application/apply.aspx to do this) so that you won't have to line up for this in PRC. The PRC officers won't process your application if you haven't accomplished the online application yet.
II. REQUIREMENTS
Although searching for the needed documents online is recommended, I find that this sometimes causes confusion. I arrived at the gates of PRC at around 6 am - and there was already a looooong line of applicants. Mind you, you'll be applying with exam takers of different professions (like Accountancy and Engineering for instance). While waiting for the gates to open, vendors around the area (carrying pastes, pens, brown envelopes, etc) will offer you their merchandise. Here's my tip: do not buy anything from outside vendors if you don't want to be stressed once inside PRC. Don't be swayed by the vendors' sales talks, "Ma'am/Ser glue at brown envelope para sa board application kailangan niyo po yan". You can buy the documentary stamp and metered white window envelope inside the PRC for a lower price compared to those being sold by outside vendors. Glue will be provided inside PRC, and you won't need the brown envelope at all (I learned this the hard way). TAKE NOTE: This is for LET applicants only, I'm not aware of the guidelines for other professional board exam takers. Here's a list of all the things you'll need:
1. Three (3) pieces passport size pictures - white background with complete name tag (doesn't matter if your surname or first name is written first, as long as you have your COMPLETE name at the bottom of your passport picture)
2. Documentary Stamp - This is priced at around Php 21. You can buy one inside PRC (ground floor, near the entrance gate). Outside vendors sell this for more than Php 30.
3. TOR - Bring the original copy and have a photocopy/xerox copy. The PRC officer will get only the photocopy. Take note: Please make sure that your TOR have "FOR BOARD EXAMINATION PURPOSES ONLY" remarks because otherwise, the PRC officers will tell you to return with the correct TOR.
4. Birth Certificate - Bring the original copy and a photocopy/xerox copy.
5. Marriage Certificate - This is for married applicants only, of course. Don't forget to bring both the original and photocopy.
6. Community Tax Certificate/Cedula - Bring your current year cedula. There's no need to photocopy this, the PRC officers won't get it anyway, you just need to copy your cedula number on the forms to be given during processing.
7. White window envelope - Do not buy from vendors outside PRC because the PRC officers will reject those bought outside. You can buy this for about Php 25 on the 4th floor of PRC. In my case, someone sold these while we were waiting in line for Step 3 on the 3rd floor.) It looks like this:
As far as I know, and according to my experience, these items are all that you need. You might hear other applicants mentioning about their NBI clearance but fret not because those are for other board applicants.
III. PROCESS
My classmates/friends applied yesterday (4 August 2015, few days away from the deadline) and I kind of pitied them because they went at the PRC office at 8am and finished at 5pm. IMAGINE THAT. But by some stroke of luck, I managed to finish everything in about two hours. I arrived at the PRC office at around 6am. They opened the gates at around 7am. We were ushered to the 3rd floor (one stop processing - all the steps were done on that floor, we didn't have to go to any other floor unlike what happened to my friends). I guess I was lucky that on the day I applied, they decided to hold the application process on one floor only (for all the steps).
Step 1 (PRE-ASSESSMENT): The PRC officers will collect one of your passport photos for scanning. You will also pass the original and photocopy copy of your TOR and birth certificate (and marriage certificate if you're married) for pre-assessment. In this step, they will check if the information on both the original and photocopies of your documents are exactly the same. They will get only the photocopies of your documents (you get to keep the original copies). You will also be given a form (roughly the size of a 1/2 index card). It looks something like this:
While waiting for Step 2, make sure that you accomplish your form completely and correctly. For the "Profession/Board Of" near the upper right corner, you may write either TEACHERS or LET/ELEM (for BEEd) or LET/SECONDARY (for BSEd). There's a glue and stamp pad (for your thumb mark) available in the room where you will process your application so there's no need for you to bring/buy paste.
Step 2 (PROCESSING): Wait for your name to be called. Once called, they will give another form to fill out (this time on a long bond paper which is stapled together with your photocopied documents). For your guidance, they will mark/check the areas you need to accomplish. In this form, you will need to paste/glue the documentary stamp (it's indicated naman where you need to put the documentary stamp - it's on the bottom left of the form) and you will also need the help of the stamp pad again for your thumb mark.
Step 3 (PAYMENT): Once you've accomplished the form, proceed to Step 3 (Payment). Just wait in line. You'll pay Php 900 (for first time takers). I'm not sure how much you'll need to pay if you're a repeater. Make sure to bring the exact amount.
Step 4 (ISSUANCE): HURRAY! You're on the last step! :) For this step, just wait for your name to be called. They'll give you your Notice of Admission (NOA) slip. Before leaving the room, make sure that all information printed on your NOA are all correct. During my application, one applicant complained of a mistake in her NOA because although all the other information were correct (Name, Exam name, Exam place, etc), a different photo was shown on her NOA. So always make sure to double check your NOA before leaving the PRC. The NOA looks like this:
I was able to get my NOA at around 9 am (so that's about 2 hours of waiting - not bad!)
For fellow LET takers, good luck on your application and good luck on our exam! God bless us all!
