Keep Calm and Watch Movies
Matilda definitely did it for me.
In school, most of my classmates see me as a bookworm, and I have been called a "nerd" way too many times. (Wearing glasses at an early age didn't help much) Even at recess or at lunchtime, I always find time to visit the library. After class, just so I can read more books in the library, I would always tell the school bus driver to fetch me along with the afternoon session students (I was always enrolled in the morning session). While other children my age would ask their parents for a toy, I would always ask for books. Such was my love for reading that I rarely watch TV, much less movies.

So imagine my amazement when I saw Matilda. Ironic as it may seem, Matilda, a movie about a girl who loves books, have taught me to love movies. Matilda made me realize that movies could be so much more, that it is not just a mere escapist's entertainment. It was also the first time that I truly realized how much impact a movie could have on a book-lover like me. After watching the film, being the innocent child *ehem* I was, I honestly thought that I could also have telekinetic powers just by doing a lot of eye-straining staring on a particular object.
For days on end, I've tried to make things move around me. But obviously, that didn't work out for me. Since I was too keen on achieving that feeling of satisfaction when an object moves to your bidding, I asked the help of my sister to, for example, move the curtain as I wave my hand. That worked for me. ;)
Matilda will always be that one movie for me that started my love for watching movies. And even though I'm still the same book-lover that I was before, I confess that I love movies now just as I love books. I think that watching movies is such an incredible experience that only a few things can ruin any person's keep-calm-and-watch-movies mood. In the first place, people watch movies not only to catch up with the latest movies but also to relax, to enjoy, and to somehow forget the crazy hullabaloos of our busy life. So isn't it just irritating when we encounter problems such as these:
1. Queue/Line Jumpers aka "mga kupal na sumisingit". Honestly, who has patience for this kind of people? This rant also goes out to people who let their friends/relatives jump in the line (mga nagpapasingit).
2. People who are taking forever to choose their seats. This is something that would be quite manageable to wait for if only the line is not that long. Ang kaso, pati opinyon ng lahat ng kasama, kailangang hingin at malaman kung okay na ba yung napiling seats ng magbabayad.
4. The cashier ran out of smaller bills. Seriously, bakit pag ikaw na 'yung nasa unahan, laging ubos na ang barya ng cashier? Tapos titignan ka pa ng masama 'pag wala kang maibigay na barya. Why? Just why?
5. You can't see the movie schedules properly. How can you see a movie's showing time in the cinema lobby with ALL the other people viewing the same schedule printed on a tiny paper. We're not ants you know.
6. The only seats left are those that will make you say: "Sige, pwede na yan kaysa maghintay pa tayo sa susunod na showing". These seats are either located in (a) the front row where you strain your neck looking up for the whole 1.5-2 hours duration of the film or (b) at the farthest right/left side of the cinema. Hey, on the bright side, front row seaters need not worry about heads blocking their view.
Who haven't experienced at least one of these annoying problems that just might, at some point, make you hate watching movies in cinemas?

What really captivates my eye to love watching movies is Harry potter and the Sorcerer's Stone..

As a kid I used to watch Disney movies, but when I watched Dumbo I couldn't get enough of it. I remember liking it a lot, but my parents said that I watched it repeatedly and I never got tired of watching it again and again. After that, I started liking more movies.
ReplyThis is the first time I heard about GMovies and it seems very convenient and accessible.
I'll let my friends know about this application ;)
I love watching movies as well! Home Alone is the first movie that I enjoyed watching. I watched it several times with my brothers when I was a kid.
ReplyI downloaded GMovies just now!

ReplyI'm a big fan of Disney movies too. Dumbo is a classic, but it makes me cry :'(
I am also a huge fan of films! My favorite film is White Chicks, because even though I've seen it for more than a dozen times already, the film never fails to crack me up. XD I can also totally relate with the problems you experience when going to movies, so I end up looking for a not-so-popular mall and watch the movies there. But now that the GMovies app is available, I now have a better strategy that gives less hassle and more fun to my movie-going experiences in the future! :D
